Professor - Corevac, Centre d’Immunologie et Maladies Infectieuses (CIMI-Paris) UPMC
Pr Autran, MD, PhD, has developed key researches on the Immunology of the infection caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and on the Immunology of vaccines. Her major contributions in the immunology of this infection provided first demonstrations of HIV :
- Immune defenses against HIV: with the first description of Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes specific for HIV (Nature, 1987), with since then numerous contributions on the specificities, compartmentalisation and dynamics of Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes directed against HIV and its variants, providing rationale for vaccine researches against HIV
- Reconstitution of the Immune System: with the first report of Immune Restoration with the new anti-retroviral therapies (Science 1997) describing recovery of memory and naïve CD4 T cells, restoration of memory T cell responses to opportunistic pathogens but not to HIV itself, thus opening a new era in the immunology of AIDS.
- Development of Therapeutic vaccines and Immune-based Interventions in HIV-infection. She developed international programs of therapeutic vaccines and new immune-based therapeutic strategies to accelerate CD4 T cell reconstitution, restore Immunity to HIV control HIV disease (Nat. Rev. Immun.A, 2003, 2012; Science, 2000, 2004, 2009, Immunol. Rev. 2013).
She also acts as an expert for Vaccines at the French Ministry of Health (Comité Technique des vaccinations) and a member of the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety.
She coordinates the AVIESAN-IMMI Consortium of Resaerches on Vaccines (CoReVac).
