Richard Cowburn

Acting Head of the Innovation Office and Project Manager for Corporate Affairs - Karolinska Institutet

Richard F. Cowburn is Acting Head of the Innovation Office at Karolinska Institutet, focused in guiding researchers in how to commercialize novel findings. He is also a project leader of corporate relations with the responsibility of facilitating and establishing academic and industry collaborations.
Cowburn has been involved in research and development activities since 1980 and has 25 years of experience in the area of neuroscience.
He obtained his PhD at the University of London and did his postdoctoral education at Karolinska Institutet. In 2006 he was recruited as senior scientist to the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca where he was responsible for the strategic direction to the neurology project pipeline and the delivery of novel targets for Alzheimerís and Parkinsonís drug discovery programmes.
At AstraZeneca Dr. Cowburn was also responsible for academic collaborations and became Adjunct Professor at Karolinska Institutet in 2007.
He has developed externalization skills, including scientific evaluations and deep fact finding, as well as scouting for new opportunities. Strong experience of team leadership and man management, with a record of driving performance and developing and coaching people.
